Ageism as a Barrier for Extended Working Life: Policies, Age Management and Workers’ Perspectives

The workshop aims to convene leading research experts to advance the ongoing debate on ageism as a major barrier to extended working life, to identify promising directions for future analyses and potential policy options. Drawing on the expertise of the invited scholars, the workshop will examine how ageism operates across institutional, organisational, and everyday workplace contexts – from labour market and policy frameworks, through age management and managerial practices, to workers’ experiences, responses, and risks of exclusion and disadvantage. The workshop will be organised as a roundtable for critical exchange on the prevalence, mechanisms and consequences linked to ageism in late working life, while also discussing options for more inclusive, sustainable and age-equitable work. The agenda is structured around three interrelated sessions, addressing overall, meso- and micro-level perspectives, and the workshop will conclude with an exchange on future directions.
